This is the first update in a month. We’ve been very busy, jetting to and fro to places like Reno, Nev. and Quincy, Calif. The beneficiary of cigarette marketing in the photo on the right is Marcel, of course. It’s 1972 and tobacco is there! Speaking of burros, Rachael and Marcel saw two of them in their yard a few nights ago, munching on some weeds. Go burros!

The completely accurate drawing of me on the left is the work of Andy Hartzell. Check out the context: It’s quite funny. Rachael just finished a number of stories on the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Her Sunday piece caused a stir; Metro got pissy and blacklisted her for a few days.

Rachael is still working on a huge family court project. It’s been her albatross since mid-November, but after it’s done she gets to have fun: She leaves her federal-court beat and starts as a general-assignment reporter, covering the whole range of stories that the Radiant City throws her way. Marcel recently took over the online department (a bloodless coup, so far) and is learning to program his Pilot 5000. Rachael gave him a Pixelvision 2000 for Christmas and he can’t wait to put some footage of burros up for everyone’s edification and/or amusement.
